The Haute-Marne lies in the south of the Champagne-Ardennes region, a beautiful and unspoilt area between Burgundy and the Vosges. The landscape consists of wooded trails in beautiful valleys where villages lie hidden. And although time has not completely stopped, this is how authentic French rural life feels.
The Haute Marne is sparsely populated with only 30 inhabitants per square kilometer. It has a rich history dating from Roman times. Our medieval property sits at the edge of the hamlet and directly behind the house are the meadows, streams and forests where you can walk for hours without a human encounter. What you may encounter are the many animals that live here such as deer, foxes, boar, pheasants, partridges, buzzards, martens, badgers, stoats, etc.
In the immediate surroundings you can enjoy many activities such as hiking, riding, golf, tennis, pool, wine tasting, lake (where you can swim, fish, eat and row), tennis and visit thermal baths, the casino, restaurants, one of the 3 surviving bell foundries and a glassworks.
There are many villages, towns and castles that are well worth a visit. Within about half an hour is Langres, a beautiful, historic walled town with renaissance houses.
An hours drive away, Dijon and Nancy are both well worth a visit. Vibrant cities with beautiful historic buildings, museums, cultural activities and inviting terraces.
Extensive documentation on all these and many more attractions and activities is available.
